Power, Politics and Resilience: A comparative analysis of health reform in post-conflict El Salvador and Guatemala

Published
Description

This presentation offers a comparison between health reform outcomes in Guatemala and El Salvador, using a lens of comparative politics and power to identify drivers of the relative success of El Salvador's reform as compared to Guatemala. It offers an excellent example of applying a political economy lens to a health space, and has implications for how to structure health service reforms so that sufficient community buy-in is achieved to be resilient to elite resistance and shifts in context. It is part of research conducted by the Health, Finance, and Governance project, https://www.hfgproject.org/
